The city is a concrete jungle and the sheer size and frenetic pace is indeed intimidating. However, Tokyo can offer an astounding experience to visitors -- perfect safety, courteous locals, and helpful citizens!

It is huge, wealthy and a fascinating metropolis that brings high-tech visions of the future alongside glimpses of old Japan.
Tokyo is located in the Kanto region on the southeastern side of Honshu, the main island. It also includes the Izu and the Ogasawara Islands. The centre of Tokyo — the former area reserved for the Shogun and his samurai — lies within the loop, while the Edo-era downtown (Shitamachi) is to the North and East. Blending seamlessly with Tokyo’s city centre are its suburbs -- Yokohama, Kawasaki and Chiba.
Tokyo has distinct seasons -- summers, which are usually hot and humid, and winters that are usually mild, with occasional cold spells. Snow is rare, but snowfall occurs annually. The famous cherry blossoms bloom in March-April, which is a very beautiful time in Tokyo.
Tokyo is an important international business and financial centre. Several of the world’s largest investment banks and insurance companies have their headquarters in Tokyo. It is also the hub for Japan’s transport, publishing and broadcasting industries.
Tokyo is like a constellation of cities that have grown together -- the districts are distinctly different in character -- the imperial gardens and shrines in Chiyoda are a complete contrast to the electronic blare of Akhibara, the active youth culture Mecca of Shibuya is different from the pottery shops and temple markets of Asakusa! The city has several museums, is rich in performing and fine arts, and has several tranquil shrines and temples. Dominant religions practiced are Buddhism and Shinto. Shinto festivals, or Matsuri are celebrated virtually through the year.
* That the Michelin Guide has awarded Tokyo the most Michelin stars than any city in the world?
* That Tokyo was named the second most expensive city for expatriate employees in the Mercer and Economist Intelligence Unit cost-of-living surveys, in 2010?
* That Tokyo was named Edo prior to 1868?
